Just jumped into Grow a Garden 2 and not sure where to start? This beginner's guide walks you through the whole loop — planting, earning Sheckles, buying pets, mutations, and surviving the new night-raid mechanic.
The basic loop
Grow a Garden 2 is simple at its core:
- •Buy seeds from the shop with Sheckles (the currency).
- •Plant them in an empty plot in your garden.
- •Wait for them to grow (pets can speed this up).
- •Harvest and sell the crops for more Sheckles.
- •Reinvest into better seeds, pets, and defenses.
Your first hour — what to do
- •Plant cheap, fast crops first (Strawberry, Blueberry, Corn) to build a Sheckle base.
- •Keep every plot full — empty plots earn nothing.
- •Buy a Deer (50,000 Sheckles) as soon as you can — it speeds up all plant growth by 10%.
- •Redeem the current code for free seeds (see our codes page).
Pets: your biggest upgrade
Unlike the original game, in GAG2 you buy pets directly with Sheckles instead of hatching eggs. Pets boost growth, collect fruit, raise your mutation odds, or defend your garden. The two best money pets are the Golden Dragonfly (2x Gold mutation) and Unicorn (2x Rainbow). Full rankings in the pet tier list.
Mutations = big money
When a crop grows, it can randomly gain a mutation that multiplies its sell price — from Gold (15x) all the way to Electric (70x) during events. Chasing mutations is how you go from thousands to millions of Sheckles. See the mutations list.
Watch out at night
The big new mechanic: at night, other players can raid your garden and steal ripe fruit. Harvest before you log off, set traps, or buy a defensive pet like the Black Dragon to keep your crops safe.
